22 strings, 5 band members, 100 percent contagious joie de vivre: That's what Kaisers Ukulele Combo stands for. Presently all residing in Graz, Philipp Mayr (Uku Bass), Alexander Guggi (Ukulele and Vocals), Wilfried Scharmüller (Mandolin) and Elisabeth and Dominic Flik (Ukulele) – all of them autodidacts – embarked upon their collective, musical Uku journey in 2015, after Liz and Dominic had decided to teach themselves how to play the iconic Hawaiian instrument. Their first gig at the Kaiser Josef Farmers' Market in Graz in spring 2016 earned the newly formed combo quite some reputation as a live act and a following of loyal fans. The band’s latest live highlight: A concert at Orpheum Graz within the scope of the Styrian Festival of New Art (steirischer herbst) in September 2016.
Ever since, their repertoire has grown to include a variety of music, embracing country, folk, rock, pop and classical music. The combo maintains a harmonious tie between musical styles and epoches, performing their own pieces and covers of songs you wouldn’t necessarily expect to hear on ukuleles. Their sets range from nostalgic country evergreens („King of the Road“), to naggingly infectious pop hits („The Lion Sleeps tonight“), to Pachelbel’s Canon eventually metamorphosing into Green Day’s 90s signature rock hymn „Basket Case“.
With their compelling blend of harmonic vocals and melodic ukulele, spiced up with a charming mandolin, Kaisers Ukulele Combo will bring a relaxed island-breeze vibe into any kind of party or event!
